Women's experiences don't always fit in the framework of a male dominated society.

What Are Women's Issues?

Women's issues are, broadly speaking, the vast array of concerns (social, personal, political, psychological, medical) that women deal with in their lives.

In today’s political climate, it has come to the forefront that women are still being abused, oppressed and silenced.  For each woman who has come forward and told her story, there are many more who remain silent and in pain.

So, have women’s place in society really changed that much over the past 40 or so years?  We live in a world that, in many respects, continues to be dictated by male-centric norms and values.  That is not to say that we have not made progress in the area of women's rights.  We have, but we have a ways to go.  For many women, this progress has come with a price as they navigate their way through newly defined roles (for which they had no role models) and defining what it means to be a woman. And, as women have gained more power, they struggle with how to use that power, and, even if a woman can intellectually recognize that she has power, she may not feel powerful.

Some common struggles for the women with whom I have worked are:

  • Discrimination and/or abuse in the workplace or at home

  • Confusion about roles such as a wife/partner, mother, daughter and/or professional

  • Anxiety, sadness, feeling overwhelmed and/or postpartum depression

  • Feeling unseen, under-appreciated or under-valued

  • Body image and/or low self-esteem issues

  • Growing older and/or menopause

If you are feeling this way, you are not alone.  As a woman, you share many commonalities with other women, but at the same time, your background, personality, feelings, and set of circumstances make you unique. I have a deep understanding of the shared experience of being a woman, which provides a framework for understanding you as a unique individual.  I can help you sort through any confusion you may have so you can begin to understand the meaning and impact certain issues have had and are having on your life.  I can help you figure out what you can do to feel better in a way that works for your life and circumstances, and will allow you to claim or reclaim your power, and enable you to make good decisions so you can feel more in control of your life.
